Lesson 005 · Does It Work? · 3 min
The link to nowhere
Principle: One broken link makes people doubt everything else.
1 · The crime
What goes wrong
You click "Book now" and land on "Page not found". You try the contact form and it says "temporarily unavailable". The footer still links to a social network that closed years ago.
2 · The law
One broken link makes people doubt everything else.
- Broken links, forms and images signal an abandoned site, even when the business is thriving.
- The most damaging breakages are on money paths: booking, buying, contacting.
- Things break silently, so checking has to be a routine.
3 · The tool
Check it yourself, for free
- Dead Link Checker (deadlinkchecker.com) or W3C Link Checker for a full site scan.
- Your own test booking or test message once a week.
- Your browser console (F12) to spot images and scripts that fail to load.
4 · The fix
Step by step
- Scan the site for broken links and fix or remove each one.
- Send a test through every form and confirm it arrives.
- Remove links to platforms you don't use any more.
- Add a monthly reminder to repeat these checks.
5 · Homework
Click every link in your site's main menu and footer. Count how many are broken or outdated.
