Lesson 008 · Tool Tutorials · 3 min
Untitled in search
Principle: Your page title is your shop sign in Google.
1 · The crime
What goes wrong
Someone searches for a bike repair shop nearby. One result is titled "Untitled document". Nobody clicks it, even though it's the closest shop.
2 · The law
Your page title is your shop sign in Google.
- The page title appears in search results and browser tabs: it should say who you are, what you do and where.
- The meta description is the sentence under the title in search results; without it, search engines pick random text.
- Each page needs one clear main heading (h1) that matches what people searched for.
3 · The tool
Check it yourself, for free
- Search for your business name and look at how your result appears.
- WebPo's free site checker for title, description and headings.
- Google Search Console (free) to see which searches show your site.
4 · The fix
Step by step
- Write a title of about 50 to 60 characters: "Business name · What you do in Place".
- Write a meta description of one or two sentences, about 150 characters.
- Use one h1 per page and h2s for sections.
- Give every page its own title; don't repeat the homepage title everywhere.
5 · Homework
Search for your own business. Write down your result's title and description. Would you click it?
